AGA Dual Is A Winning Cooker

I was cleaning in Banbury before Christmas, it was a standard double oven – pretty grim – but around the corner was the AGA showroom – the AGA, Fired Earth showroom there. I went in and had a look at the new AGA Dual which looked the IMAG0045business.

The sales lady was very friendly and she told me that AGA had made the new Dual so it would be the new low cost running AGA. It is like a 13 Amp AGA but the top plates are controllable like the AGA Total Control. This means they can be switched off to save loss of heat and cost. As you can run the AGA in Eco mode too which is a lower temperature it brings the running costs right down. So this means you can keep it on all day, it will keep your kitchen warm and still be very reasonable to run – my guess is somewhere around £10 to £15 in electricity costs per week if you run it in Eco Mode and switch off the top plates when you aren’t using them.

I asked her if problems with the AGA Total Control was affecting their sales. The lady said she hadn’t heard if about any problems with the Total Control, (but I expect this is because any problems would be reported to AGA Service and not the shop) and that 70% of their sales in 2013 were the AGA Total Controls. Which to me is surprising as for me having lots of radiant heat, which the AGA Total Control is short of, is the appeal of having an AGA in your home.

So thats a lot of people getting them. The new Dual comes like the AGA Total Control in one big piece already built so you need to have the access to your kitchen for it to be fitted. I was particularly impressed with it and it was even more special as it was in the new AGA colour Aqua (see my photo of it). I am sure they are going to be a winner, you’ll get the AGA radiant heat to heat your kitchen with the AGA TC doesn’t give you and you’ll get the lower bills. I loved the easy to use top plates which are the same as the AGA Total Control in that they are one piece and don’t have the top plate rings which sometimes can snag when pushing your pans around whilst cooking. So I expect this to be a top selling AGA in 2014 – will it outstrip the AGA Total Control in sales? Yes I think it will.

But the sales lady agreed with me that the best AGA is still the AGA 30 Amp, which I have, especially as it is only about £13 a week to run. The cost of the new Dual is very close to the AGA 30 Amp but the Dual does have 3 ovens compared to the 30 Amp which only has two. So it may be a tough choice for you, but those controllable hot plates may make a difference to the heat of your kitchen in the summer, depending on the size of your kitchen, as we don’t switch our 30 Amp off in the Summer and we have a small kitchen it gets very hot! And you can offset that if you can switch the top plates off like you can on the AGA Dual.
