I think I mentioned before in a previous post that we left our AGA cooker on for last Summer and it looks like we are going to keep it on again this year. Yesterday the weather was beautiful and we the kitchen was very hot! We opened the doors and the windows though and then we didn't notice!
. I think this is the normal reaction of an AGA owner.
This is contrary to what the Chief Executive of AGA Rangemaster believes is the case. In the recent AGA Cooker Green debate with George Monbiot of the Guardian he stated his belief is that most AGA cooker owners switch their AGA cooker off for the Summer and use their conventional cooker instead. George asked him where his figures were and I'd agree with this as I have cleaned hundreds of AGAs and only a few people have had a conventional oven back up, in their kitchen, and even though some have a conventional oven backup they still keep the AGA on for the Summer.

Just in case you were wondering what the 13 Amp AGA Cooker vent looks like. Here is a picture of it. You can see that I've put my car key on the top so that you can get an idea of the size.
The vent was positioned at waist height on the outside wall of the house inline with the 13 Amp AGA cooker inside the house. So the vent was coming out directly from the back of the AGA cooker to the outside.
It wasn't hot just slightly warm to the touch.

I have recently picked up this great way of drying things on the top of the AGA cooker.
Using a Chefs pad which you can by online from the AGA Cookshop put them on the top of the AGA cooker lid and then put any plastic boxes on the top of them and they dry out.
This has become particulary useful as we have found that plastic dishes that are still wet when taken out of the dishwasher can be dried out completely by just transferring them from the dishwasher to the top of the AGA. So a great result.

This is a repeat of an earlier post from a couple of days ago. I have submitted it again as I orginally got the name of the product and company wrong! So sorry about that Homepride Ltd and their product Oven Pride. How could I have got it wrong? They also do other products than oven cleaner. I have used the microwave cleaner and it was okay I'll write a review on it in another post.
I've just heard on the Jeremy Vine show on BBC Radio 2 radio station the Oven Pride advert
which was played twice. This great news for oven cleaning companies and
suppliers of oven cleaning products especially of course Oven Pride
manufacturers Homepride Ltd
as it focuses on the idea of getting your oven cleaned. Please don't
leave it too long as you will get all the problems of a dirty oven:
smoking, lots of grease all over including the seals, grime, unable to
see through the door and that layer of burnt on carbon.
So if you
decide to get and use Oven Pride oven cleaner it really is so easy to
use that a man can do it but it will need a female to read the
instructions on the packet.
So please, this is very important, read
ALL the instructions on the outside of the packet and carry them out
exactly. Make sure that you don't have any children or pets in the room
or anywhere near you when you do the cleaning.
Once you've had a
go and you haven't really got the clean oven that you were looking for
give us a ring in the South West or South Wales or if you don't live in
our area call out your local oven cleaning company and get the job done
properly by a MAN (though in some areas there are women professional
oven cleaning cleaners).
See you soon…

If you get a 13 Amp Electric AGA it will come already fitted with AIMS. AIMS stands for, taken from the Spillers AGA dealers in Chard Somerset Cookcentre site:
The Aga Intelligent Management System (AIMS), is a sophisticated programme, which allows you to adjust the
output of your Aga, to suit your way of life. To put it simply, it means your Aga can sleep when you do, and
only operate at normal power when it is needed.
AIMS
can be fitted to current 13 Amp Electric Agas and selected gas models
and is controlled by a stylish and minimalist remote control handset.
The
AIMS programme is very flexible and for ease of use it comes preset
with two active periods each day. The Aga will be at normal temperature
for breakfast in the morning, drop down to a lower temperature during
the day, then return to normal temperature ready to cook the evening
meal. Once dinner is over the system will automatically enter 'Slumber'
mode, the lowest temperature.
From the photograph of our friends new AGA Cooker which they have just had installed (May 2009) you can see the control unit in the AGA. It comes with a remote control handset too. Using the AIMS will bring down the price of running your 13 Amp AGA down to about £25 to £30 a week. Still expensive. I would recommend getting a reconditioned 30 Amp aga. Though if you really can't do without the 3rd oven, and running costs don't matter, and ou want the easy installation costs of the electric AGA then the 13 Amp will be the one for you.
For me I would like to know how AIMS taking the AGA into slumber model affects the performance of the simmering oven. Surely you won't be able to use it when the AGA cooker is in slumber mode?

Our friend who I have told you about in a previous post has just had her kitchen completely refurbished and she has installed a 13 Amp electric AGA Cooker.
As you know I think the best AGA to get is the 30 Amp electric AGA with running costs of about £11 a week. But our friend was sold on getting an AGA cooker with 3 ovens.
If she is calculating the running costs of it I'll let you know what they are in a future posting but it is a brand new one so has AIMS fitted to. I'd expect the running weekly costs to be between £25 and £30 a week.
Picture here is the 3 oven AGA cooker showing the baking oven which unusually is below the control section.
